Their new Green-Key product is a paperboard version of the PVC plastic key cards. These keys are completely biodegradable and easily recycled.
Most of us have probably never considered the environmental impact of the little plastic cards that hotels use as room keys, but their impact is a pretty big one. The majority of these key cards are made of indestructible PVC plastic, and just the production of PVC plastic damages the environment. When you take into account the fact that PVC is indestructible and will never break down in a landfill, it seems a little pointless for something that most guests and hotel employees consider disposable.
Cadus Whitehall Group took notice of this problem, and has created an alternative that is both eco friendly and affordable. Their new Green-Key product is a paperboard version of the PVC plastic key cards. These keys are completely biodegradable and easily recycled. The Green-Keys are completely compatible with the existing door lock systems, and they are cheaper than the plastic versions so making the switch makes perfect sense for hotels.
Dan King, Owner of The Boulder Outlook Hotel & Suites in Colorado has already made the switch and says that his guests actually prefer the keycards because it reminds them that the hotel they chose is committed to the environment.
