The Associated Press reported today that Larry Klayman, a Miami lawyer is suing the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) for the escalating cost of oil.  Klayman claims that oil prices are artificially high because of OPEC, and that they are operating a conspiracy whose mission is to cause economic harm in the United States and other western nations.  The lawsuit which was filed Monday states that the organization is in violation of U.S. antitrust laws for fixing oil prices, and hopes that a Miami Federal Judge will stop this from continuing.

Well, thank you Mr. Klayman!  With gas prices in the US averaging over $4 a gallon, it's about time someone did something…and if you can't beat 'em why not sue the pants off 'em, right?  Ok, I'm KIDDING, and even though I'm pretty sure the lawsuit will be innefective, I do hope SOMETHING will give us a break soon.

As the cost of oil rises, so do the prices of so many other things we need to get by.  My most recent trip to the grocery store illustrated this perfectly.  On average, my grocery bill runs me right around $100 but this week rang up to almost $130!  And I've noticed it elsewhere too, at lunch with some coworkers today my usual had gone up from $4.97 to $5.97.  What about the cost of travel?  It's already been affected, to offset the rising cost of fuel airlines have started charging a fee for checked baggage which adds weight to flights.  All these little price changes add up to a LOT over time and are pushing our economy further into a recession.

What are you doing to save money during the gas crisis?  Check out these gas saving tips from a previous Green Travel Blog post.
