Travelers who are looking to green up their travels will have no problem doing so in DC. The city that is home to so many of this country's historical sights and leaders, is also leading the way to a cleaner and greener future. DC is even home to some of the greenest hotels in the country. Check out some city information and our top 10 list of Green Hotels in DC.

As the nation's capital, Washington DC is no stranger to history, or history in the making.  Washington DC is full of activities for any traveler from its dozens of museums to its diverse culture, to its beautiful parks and gardens.  Travelers who are looking to green up their visit will have no problem doing so in DC.  The city that is home to so many of this country's historical sights and leaders, is also leading the way to a cleaner and greener future.

An excellent public transportation system of trains and busses flow throughout the city, curbing carbon emissions, and DC visitors can participate in America's first public bike sharing system.  Buildings cannot be taller than 160 ft which allows for unobstructed views of the surrounding scenery and recently Washington DC passed a Green Building Act that is setting new standards for growing cities worldwide.  The Act, which went into effect March of 2007, requires any new building to comply with LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards.  The passing of the Green Building Act made DC the very first city to require LEED compliance for public and private projects.

While existing buildings are not required to make modifications to meet LEED standards, DC is already home to some of the country's greenest hotels.  RezHub.com's Green Travel Hub put together a top 10 list of Green Hotels in DC.  If you're planning a trip to Washington DC, consider staying at one of Washington DC's Greenest Hotels.
