What Does it Mean to be Green?

Article by - Charlie

The ever growing trend towards environmentally concious thinking has proprogated into many different arenas; and one of the fastest growing and adoptive areas is travel, especially hotels, inns and bed and breakfasts. So, as major hotel brands such as Hilton, Disney and Choice Hotels begin to include ecological concepts into their business plans, the options for green hotels continues to grow. But, what exactly does it mean to be green?

For a hotel, it can mean many things, but it is simply defined as environmentally friendly properties whose management takes into consideration processes and procedures that can help positively affect their surrounding environments. Some examples of green hotel amenities include; towel and linen program (where towels and linens are used more than once by the hotel guest), alternative energy, water conservation, recycling bins and donating to charities. But, even though this trend is emerging in the hotel industry, there are not always many options at a specific destination. If this is the case, there are also steps every traveler can take to "green-up" their hotel stay. Look for more information in the next article.
